So for now i've been in a 95' International 4900 DT466 with an Eaton 6 spd. Never wants to get in 1st gear and 2nd. Doesn't like to be popped out in 1st an 2nd gear either. So with the last truck it never wanted to stay in gear. With this truck it always wants to stay in gear but never goes in. I would like an explaintion of that. It's got an 84' Hackney Dairy Special Refridgerated box with an 84' Thermo King Fuelsaver.

Also, the turbo on this truck has a deafening whistle when i get up near 1500 and 2500 RPM's. Sounds like an air leak. Doesn't provide a whole lotta boost like it did before. Didn't whistle like that til' I rode up a 3 mile steep hill and hit a huge hole in the road on I-95. The whistle 99% chance is a boost leak. Finding it is normally done best when cold. You should be able to feel it by hand just follow the pipes.

If you can't then you can spray soapy water but, if it is loud enough to hear in the truck soapy bubbles isn't going to help. Also it can be before the turbo and can be a suction leak.

So simple stuff first clamps, air filter, air filter box, hoses, joints. Also a quick look at the grill if you have had a stone kick up and hit it it can put a hole your Charge Air Cooler also known as inter cooler. The Eaton transmission if it is hard to go in my first thinking would be clutch brake if you have one. Second one would be clutch adjustment.

Normally when you are in higher gears its already spinning at a decent pace allowing for easier engagement. Also if your clutch is hydraulic (doubtful with the age) you want to check the fluid level of that it will say what it takes up top but, most of the time it is DOT3 brake fluid for the clutch. 99% chance the leak at that seal is your whistle. The grinding metal to metal is not good and if you just had it worked on they should fit the bill for fixing it. If you are pushing all the way too the floor that squealing you are hearing is your clutch brake. You are not supposed to push all the way to the floor in big rigs you are normally about an inch off the floor to be able to shift.

Re4r01a valve body removal. The clutch brake is meant for when you are going from a dead stop and you need the transmission to slow down to engage the gears. Otherwise you are trying to stop the momentum of the truck with this. It normally has 2-4 bolt sin it with a 13mm or 9/16' head on them. Take caution before doing this truck should be off, parking brake on, wheels chocked, and you should be wearing safety glasses and a dust mask. The clutch material, dry grease, and fine metal shaving will be on top of that plate. So don't be under it if you can help it when you take it off. It is located at the front of the transmission rear the engine on the bottom.

75-80% of the time that is what makes the noises you hear if that is perfectly fine someone messed something up or your trans fluid level hasn't been kept up etc. Also are you double clutching or single clutching is the other issue. While you might think single clutching is fine it will actually mess up an unsynchornized transmission which is what is in 90% of the manual big boy diesels.
